HI all!
ALL phones involved here are the same model: Audiovox cdm-8915vm "Snapper" v8:
Service = Virgin Mobile USA
Hardware= TX215_REV_2
Software = T215VMT01_4.195
I realize that I have been searching all over the net for a file that I actually have if I can get at it - but as a noob I need a little help with the process. I have functioning data cables and drivers and software and have on at least one occassion successfully ported my games and pictures and contacts from a file to a phone.
I have :
..... 1 unusable phone that WILL connect to my pc (this was the source of the original data files) but is useless as a phone because the connector to the screen was totally trashed (circuit traces ripped off of main board - have circuit writer pen, but no ant-sized tool or fingers small enough to make use of it) and
..... 3 unusable phones due to me f**king around with the file systems trying to restore data to a new phone from my old (broke) one using bitpim or QPST. These get no startup music, and will not power on to any stable state to be manipulated but instead will briefly display a white screen with a brief message and recycle in a constant loop; two get to the logo but no music then a white screen, one with "m c .c 01433", and one has the more common "restoring user data" and the number 1, 2, or 3 before cycling again; the other says "fs_dir.c 09264" (don't remember if the logo appeared). I don't know if I can connect these to the pc anymore since they don't stay online long enough for the port to register their presence or maybe software doesn't see them.
..... The most useful thing (sort of) I have is a phone I bought off e-bay (used/unworking - generally pretty trashed) that I switched the main board out of into one of the broken phone's housings with a working screen and unbent the charger input with some tweezers - successfully activated on vm service with my account but apparently the microphone or something else is also broken b/c whenever I pick it up, I can hear them but no one can hear me ("can you hear me now?...." no. "Can you hear me now? ...." no. "Can you hear me now?...." no.:D) I used to think this was the same problem I have always had in my bermuda triangle of a house, but apparently this is more serious than a service area problem and appears to be hardware related as they REALLY can't hear me at all... but it powers up to the annoying jingle and logo and everything else seems ok.
..... I also have 1 brand new (but unusable :mad:) phone that was bought on e-bay: apparently stolen b/c I cannot activate the esn. I was told to take it back to Walmart in Kansas - I live in California - and do not have a receipt as I didn't buy it from there anyway... BUT (and I'm not sure if this is even a good thing, maybe I made it worse:confused:) I CAN (did) restore something from an old .qcn file so that now it no longer reads "service programming required" and actually (since its programmed with my phone number) sometimes rings or registers voicemail to my account, although I cannot call out since it is not recognized by vm's system. It also does power on with the annoying music and logo, to the same default stuff it should otherwise do...
I think the best solution to all this would be to change the meid of the brand new (stolen?) phone to the one of the oldest phone, but I can't figure out if that's even possible. btw, I am not afraid of the soldering iron if it will help in any way; I also have one additional board that is pretty much fubar that will NOT connect to the pc since that interface was mashed off the board as well as the screen connector -- this one was my fault - I decided to see if I could successfully remove the interface in the event that I might be able to put in on the original phone - no dice, it melted...(stop laughing!:p)... which I will now swap the mic out of onto the semi-useful activated phone, but I don't know if it will work or not...
*** SO question is- with all this at my disposal... can I use the software from the hardware I cannot use to fix the software of the hardware I can use to get one bloody working phone out of the 8 (:eek:) I have purchased over the last few years? (And yes, I know there's only 7 listed - I had another one that was stolen...-- stop laughing! I like the phone, ok? It suits me...)
If so, how? (step by step - starting with best way to get usable software off the working model? Or a way to swap the meids? )
I do have a bunch of games and ringtones or other crap (what started my whole process in the first place was moving these from one broken phone to the new one...) to offer in exchange but I imagine that if you can actually help me, I don't have anything you don't already have access to on your own ... but I'm pretty resourceful and I might be able to help with something else?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help...
