View Full Version : Issues with Curitel / 8900 2 dead phones
justanotheruser 10-04-2007, 09:16 OK--spent a good amount of time on this, I've run through the forums with a fine tooth comb and it seems like I'm just not getting something.
I can't seem to get Curitel PST to flash no matter what I do. I've downloaded unified 4.7 and 4.8, 5.2, and the one marked for telus. All functions work (although it seems I have to constantly enter ##PORT for every function or it searches ports non-stop)
I have several brands, cricket, metro, and verizon. All end up doing the same thing with matching software and REV numbers. I've used both a USB data cable (prolific USB->serial, kyoSE47) and an LG VX6000 serial cable on a different machine using com1.
using USB cable, ##PORT, RS232, I start the flash, it backs up NVM, then it get's stuck on "download start~~!!" and makes no progress with the phone apparently locked in service mode. I have to pull the battery, then the phone boots back up fine.
With the COM cable, it goes to erasing (0x10000 =-0x20000) freezes the phone in serivce mode, except in this case the phone is fried and will now just power up black screen (trashed NVM)
Am I retarded and missing the "here's how it's done 101" post or what??
Try this application... I use it with serial cable (COM1)... just rename your file so it has a .bin extension...
1.- Open the file
2.- Press the "Start Software Download" button
3.- Connect the phone
It should start working automatically, if not, toggle the PWR button a few times... I've been using it to even revive some dead phones...
Let me know if you get it to work... (don't have to say anything, just press "Thanks")...
justanotheruser 11-04-2007, 05:43 WELP.... All curitel PST's were worthless to me(except for config swaps)--however THIS tool... WORKED LIKE A CHARM 100% not only did the flash go through it brought back to life both of the dead phones that the PST software fried. One note to other users who might download this very useful file: go to options, there's one unmarked ____.... that's actually where you set the port and pick USB or com port. I used this tool on a win98 laptop (only unit in house with a com port) and an LG VX6000 oem serial data cable on 2 phones that powered on only to black screen. Kudo's from bringing this file to surface, much appreciated.
hello, I tried this program, but all the firmware files I found for the audiovox 8910 are 9MB, and this program says they need to be 8 MB or smaller, what do I do?
and what serial to serial cable would I use, or what are the pinouts for making one?
thanks
If your file is larger than 8Mb, trim it with a Hex editor and save it as a separate file... the file for recovery should go from 0 to 7FFFFF (8Mb), cut everything from 800000 and beyond, after recovering the phone, flash it with the PST and the complete file, this will load the information that was trimmed before...
Well, I'm not sure what to do now, because I couldnt click on the download firmware or w/e, i clicked the button to the right, thinking I had to clear the EFS first, well not the phone doesnt do anything unless i hold the power button, then it shows a semi-lit black screen and viberates for less then a second, then off, the outside light also turns green as soon as I hit the power button, and stays on till I release it.
Without doing anything and plugging in the cable into it and to the usb port, It shows up as an unknown device, but no errors, but it isn't recognized on any com port.
Do I need to make a serial to serial cable and plug it into COM1?, if so, I need pinouts
Before attempting any of this, you should have the basic required tools, in this case the serial cable... it can be the SE47 or LG serial cable, or the Unibox (see sales section)...
I'm not sure you will get the plans to build the cable from scratch, you may get the pinout of the phone's connector, but you cannot connect the phone directly to the PC, you need a level translator and some other stuff...
Just get the cable before asking how to use the program...
My phone doesn't work at the moment, so I just want to get a firmware back on it, as for cabling, no one caries it around by me, and I have a 5 to 3.3 volt serial converting chip, I don't believe anything else is needed, I just need to know pinouts for tx rx V+ and gnd.
The cable I originally used was a serial to usb, but thats obviously not working, probably because the usb protocol needs some software/firmware on the phone's end, which it is missing.
The reason I didn't first use my PST is that the firmware wasn't verizon made and the phone isn't either, so it wouldn't let me.
found the pinouts, [Only Registered Users Can See Links]
those are the same as the audiovox 89xx series, from what I read elsewheres
I plan on using a DS276 chip or a MAX232N.
from another part of this forum, I found the schematic, I thought I'd check it with you

freeripper 24-08-2007, 23:28 Have you tried reading the SPC with Denso PST or QXDM?
For ESn change try this;
DM Audiovox
pw "0101010101010101"
mode offline-d
nv_write esn {0x12345678}
mode reset
Also SPC Reader and Unlocker if you do a search for Audiovox SPC Reader/Unlocker on this forum.
Easy stuff man!

NIck222, i was downloading the firmware on audiovox 8900 and at the same time was working on the same computer in the process download stopped at 86% and my phone now doesnt even turn on even after removing battery. it seems like its completely dead.
plz help me how i can make this phone power on so that i could download the firmware in it.
thank you so much in advance.
Try turning on the phone with the battery (not connected to the PC) if the green light on the caller ID side comes up while pressing the PWR button there might be hope to recover it using the application in my post... Otherwise, the memory is already corrupted on the boot sector and it won't be able to turn on on DM mode...

me to same with you, help nick ....
What firmware are you using (carrier/version)?... what size is it?...
i think the problem is size of bin files..
it work well if 8mb, but if you rename the flash file for audiovox pst, the bin file size is 9mb..
