View Full Version : is it true that only tri-band phones work with cricket???
DrummerFL83 07-09-2008, 08:36 I tried flashing my UTStarcom 6700 to cricket, but after i load the PRL it has no service! I went to the dealer and he said that since it isn't a tri-band phone it wouldn't work. I read other forums and it worked for them, but not for me. He said that since we have no towers here, and it's all digital, it wouldn't work. But any other tri-band phone would work. Weird! lol :)
The phone is dual band 850/1900, appart from that is only CDMA 450 which as far I know isnt used in America and AMPS 800 (analog); try both EVDO and CDMA 1x PRLs ...
wchriseg 08-09-2008, 23:42 what market are you in

Currently NO other phone will work on those areas except for the ones Cricket & Metro PCS is selling (Samsung r430 myshot, Samsung r450 Messager, Samsung r210 Spex, Utstarcom7126) and THATS IT, no different prl nor flash will make a phone from other carriers work on those new tri-band areas.
So to answer the question yes it is 100% true.

Areas in green circle = any cdma phone
Areas in yellow circle = ONLY AWS, Tri-Band, 1700mghz frecuency whatever you wanna call it will work there.
DrummerFL83 13-09-2008, 02:44 Omg...then it's true! Thanks for the info, guys. Ugh...now if I can only figure out how to write the ringers to this, crappy, 7126 phone. I've tried and tried, and nothing. I'm in the deep south texas region; brownsville, to be exact. Ugh...well, thanks for replying! I really appreciate it!

Lol that was random
Yep - I'm going through the same thing. I have a Sprint Palm Centro. I am in South Texas, Cricket Expanded area so I can't use my old phone. I also have a cricket phone from Central Texas (no triband) and it will not work in this "Triband" area either. I bought one of the "Triband" phones and it should work Everywhere there is Cricket. Thing is there is only 5 phones to choose from, and pretty basic models from Nokia, Samsung, Motorola.
The service seems to be great - it seems to be better than sprint, I don't get as much signal-lost / dropped call as I did.
Guess I need to sell 2 Palm Centro phones!

Isnt 1700 (AWS) for data only?

Well you could use non-tri-band phone in that area but it would always be in roaming?

So no firmware from a Metro PCS phone will work in say the same Verizon tri-band phone to get it on cricket's network?
