Minimum ESD requirements for work environment and equipment
1. Repair service involving disassembly of the Radio Module shall be performed in an EPA, (ESD Protected Area).
2. The EPA (ESD Protected Area), i. e. the repair/ service area, shall be clearly identified by signs already visible at the entrance.
3. The EPA shall be separated from non-protected areas. The areas shall be distinguished by adequate marking.
4. Inside the EPA, all preventive measures shall be observed (see limit values in chapter 7.4).
5. Modules and ESD components shall be handled and stored in ESD protective packing material, such as conductive bags or boxes.
6. Only ESD protective carts/ containers shall be used to transport service equipment in the EPA area.
7. The floor covering shall be made of conductive material.
8. Only cleaning material that does not change electrical characteristics shall be used.
9. The workbench shall be equipped with a conductive tablemat (grounded via 1 M ohm).
10. Technicians shall use an ESD wristband (1 M ohm series resistor).
11. ESD clothes, such as coats, shall be used.
12. ESD chairs shall be used. Wheels shall be kept dust free.
13. ESD shoes or heel grounders shall be used.
14. Inside the EPA conductive wastebaskets and office equipment shall be used.
15. Service equipment, i. e. soldering station, microscope, etc, shall be grounded.
16. Service tools/ equipment like tweezers and screwdrivers shall be ESD-compatible.
17. Inside the EPA smoking, drinking and eating is prohibited.
18. Workbenches shall be free of dispensable items.
19. Modules/ displays shall be cleaned with ionized air.
20. PWBs/ PCBs shall only be handled with ESD gloves.
21. The EPA shall be cleaned periodically and always kept dust-free.
22. ESD test equipment (footwear and wrist-strap tester) shall be used.
23. ESD measurement equipment for maintenance and auditing purposes (e.g. resistance, field meter) shall be at least available.
24. Inside the spare part stock a separated and grounded area for ESDS components shall be available.
25. Electrostatic fields inside EPA must follow given limits.
